Subtle Physical Body Health

                                                       BODYWORK

Bodywork is offered mostly in 90 minute, or 120 minute sessions that incorporate elements of the massage techniques below.  A massage could also be focused on just of these techniques by request.  Each session is customized based on intuitive and logical/verbal assessment of your goals and needs.  30 minute Sessions can be done for Reflexology on Hands and Feet. Hilary does not massage the entire body in 60 minutes. If you want Massage for Relaxation, choose a 90 minute time period.  With 120 Minutes, you can have both Relaxation and a Therapy for problem areas.  Hilary's Bodywork is unique and intuitive and utilizes Myofascial techniques, Ayurvedic lymph massage, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, Heated Stone techniques with the added benefits of crystals, energy work and sound healing.  Though she does use some Swedish Massage (spa massage), it is not her primary technique.  This treatment is subtle, includes pressure points, stretching, listening to the body, and Energy Work.

She does not practice Deep Tissue Massage.  It scars muscle, creates an endorphin rush which is temporary and addictive,  and does not solve problems because it works against the body instead of with it.  However she is capable of doing quite a deep pressure in a different way and you can request this.  In every session you will get several techniques, Energy Work and sound healing, hot stones and cold cystals, cold-pressed olive oil that penetrates past all skin layers in order to  nourish all tissues, and at least 2  different Aromatherapy oils pulled for you intuitively.   Please tell her if you are allergic to anything, or do not like certain oils.  You are required to fill out an intake form prior to your first massage and at any time afterward that information needs to be updated.

Reflexology
Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet, hands, or ears with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques, based on what Reflexologists have postulated for over 100 years to be a system of zones and reflex areas that represent the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.  The idea is that areas on the feet and hands (even face and ears) correspond to areas of the body, and that by manipulating these one can improve health.  Reflexologists divide the body into ten equal vertical zones, five on the right and five on the left. There are different maps and theories of Reflexology.  Reflexology from Hilary feels deeper  in comparison to what she does with the rest of the body, because the feet and hands can handle more pressure. She also utilizes myofascial stretching technigues and Ayurvedic Ahbyanga technique.

SHIATSU

is Japanese for "finger pressure"; it is a type of alternative medicine consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques. Shiatsu is a way to help people relax and cope with issues such as stress, muscle pain, nausea, anxiety, and depression. Shiatsu was invented by Tokujiro Namikoshi who founded the first shiatsu college in 1940, it is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts of Body Meridians.  It is another way of attending to the meridians, besides Acupuncture.

Heated Stone

Stones are heated in a crock pot, filled with water. Some are placed onto specific points on the body and others are used for massage. Hilary usually uses aroma oils along with the stones, and always asks the client if anything is too hot before leaving a stone anywhere.    This type of massage can be very relaxing, good for absorption of oil and essential oil (which is very healthy for the body, especially in the fall and winter), warming to the body and metabolism, and can relax muscular and connective tissue problems, especially when done in tandum with myofascial techniques.

Swedish Massage and Stretching
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are gliding strokes, kneading strokes, rhythmic strokes, friction strokes, and vibration/shaking. Hilary has her own style with these strokes, she has a comfortable touch with pressure, but she does not do Deep Tissue Massage.  Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.  This is the most common form of massage found in western spas.  The term "Swedish" massage is actually only recognized in English and Dutch speaking countries, and Hungary. Elsewhere (including Sweden) the style is referred to as "classic massage".

Ayurvedic  Massage
Ayurvedic Ahbyanga is an ancient Indian technique to nourish all the skin layers, lubricate the bloodstream and organs and therefore eliminate toxins and dryness from the body.  This massage balances vata dosha and is part of the Vedic technnique of purification called Panchakarma, because it eliminates toxins. It is a light massage done with a lot of warm organic olive or sesame oil and you will be very oily afterward so bring clothes you don't care about! Hilary adds some aromatherapy and energy work to her ahbyanga.  Ahbyanga feels nurturing, but it is not a deep massage, in fact Ayurvedic philosophy is about first doing no harm.

Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials known as essential oils for the purpose of altering a person's mind, mood, cognitive function, or health.

Some essential oils have demonstrated anti-microbial effects.  Other uses include pain and anxiety reduction, enhancement of energy and short-term memory, relaxation, hair loss prevention, and reduction of eczema-induced itching.

Two basic explanations exist. One is the influence of aroma on the brain, especially the limbic systemThe other is the direct pharmacological effects of essential oils being absorbed by the skin.  Some preliminary clinical studies of aromatherapy in combination with other techniques show positive effects. Aromatherapy does not cure conditions, but helps the body to find a natural way to cure itself and improve immune response.  The way that Hilary was trained in Aromatherapy was in combination with massage, with heated stones, to help oils get through all the layers of the skin. She specifically has studied a variety of essential oils and their various effects on health but usually uses her intuition to apply aromatherapy.

Myofascial Massage

Fascia is the soft tissue component of the connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. Osteopathic theory proposes that this soft tissue can become restricted due to disease, overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and corresponding diminished blood flow. Although fascia and its corresponding muscle are the main targets of Myofascial Release, and Myofascial Massage as Hilary does it, other tissue may be addressed as well.  This type of massage is an attempt to bring about changes in the myofascial structures by stretching or elongation of fascia, or mobilising adhesive tissues. The practitioner moves slowly through the layers of the fascia until the deep tissues are reached.  The indirect method involves a gentle stretch, with only a few grams of pressure, which allows the fascia to 'unwind' itself. The dysfunctional tissues are guided along the path of least resistance until free movement is achieved.  The indirect technique originated in osteopathy schools and is also popular in physiotherapy. The term "myofascial release" as a technique was a term coined in 1981 when It was popularized and taught to physical therapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists and physicians by John F Barnes.

The assumptions underlying the practice of myofascial release:

  • Fascia covers all organs of the body, muscle and fascia cannot be separated.
  • All muscle stretching is myofascial stretching.
  • Myofascial stretching in one area of the body can be felt in and will affect the other body areas.
  • Release of myofascial restrictions can affect other body organs through a release of tension in the whole fascia system.

HILARY'S   FUN  FOOD  FACTOIDS

(

*IF YOU WANT TO ADD HONEY TO TEA,  PUT YOUR FINGER IN IT FIRST TO MAKE SURE IT IS 100 DEGREES OR COOLER.  RAW UNHEATED HONEY TAKES TOXINS OUT OF THE BODY AND IS NUTRITIVE! WHEREAS COOKED HONEY IS TOXIC TO YOUR "CHANNELS" AND IS EXTREMELY HARD TO PURIFY OUT.

*TO INCREASE THE VIBRATION OF YOUR HOME, INCREASE YOUR DIGESTION, DECREASE CHANCES OF GETTING SICK, AND INCREASE SLEEP QUALITY, TALK TO HILARY ABOUT YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS

*DRINK COCONUT MILK, CASHEW MILK, ALMOND MILK OR RICE MILK INSTEAD OF SOY! SOY MILK IS EXTREMELY HARMFUL TO A WOMAN'S MENSTRUAL CYCLE, NO WOMEN WHO ARE MENSTRUATING SHOULD BE DRINKING SOY MILK, AND IT IS QUESTIONABLE THAT ANYONE SHOULD BE.

*INSTEAD OF REFINED SUGAR THERE ARE ALL THESE OTHER CHOICES NOW!  COCONUT SUGAR, BEET SUGAR, RAW HONEY, AGAVE, STEVIA, XYLITOL, FRUCTOSE, MAPLE SYRUP.  REFINED CANE SUGAR IS ADDICTIVE AND CREATES CANCER.

*THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SYSTEM FOR HEALTH IN THE ENTIRE BODY! IF YOU CAN DIGEST FOODS COMPLETELY YOU WILL NOT HAVE ALLERGIES, VIRUSES, AND ALL SORTS OF OTHER DISEASES! IN ORDER TO DIGEST FOOD BETTER, ADD SPICES OF ALL KINDS LIKE BLACK PEPPER OR RED PEPPER, GINGER, TUMERIC, CUMIN, CORIANDER, CINNAMON, CARDAMOM, FENNEL, GARLIC, OREGANO, THYME, BASIL, ETC

*IF YOU FEEL HEAVY OR TIRED AFTER YOUR MEALS, GET SOME GINGER CAPSULES AT THE STORE AND TAKE ONE BEFORE EVERY MEAL

*TO LOOSE WIEGHT: DRINK HOT WATER IN BETWEEN MEALS AND/OR SIP ON TEA OF CUMIN, GINGER, FENNEL

*DRINK VATA TEA TO STAY CALM, SLEEP WELL, STAY HYDRATED BY LUBRICATING YOUR KIDNEYS AND NOT LOOSING WATER AS FAST AS YOU DRINK IT.  THIS TEA COMBATS DRYNESS, ANOTHER MAJOR FACTOR IN MOST ILLNESSES.   I  SELL IT AT MY OFFICE! DO NOT DRINK IT IF YOU ARE CATCHING A COLD

*IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE DIGESTING MILK, ASK HILARY ABOUT THE LACTOSE TOLERATION PROGRAM!

*TRY NOT TO EAT MORE THAN 10 NUTS IN ONE SETTING! MOST PEOPLE CANNOT DIGEST THE DENSITY OF NUTS IN LARGER QUANTITIES

*FOR INSTANT IMMUNITY BOOST: EAT FRUIT BY ITSELF, WITH NO OTHER FOODS IN THE MORNING AND WAIT 30 MINUTES ATLEAST BEFORE EATING ANYTHING ELSE

*TRY SWEET POTATOES OR YAMS INSTEAD OF REGULAR WHITE POTATOES, WHICH CAUSE DIABETES AND HEART DISEASE AND  HAVE VERY LITTLE NUTRITIVE VALUE!

*TRY TRIPHALA: A SUPPLEMENT FORMULA WITH 3 FRUITS FOR REGULARITY, DIGESTIVE REGULATION AND EXCELLENCE OF DIGESTION, CLEANING OUT TOXINS….. INSTEAD OF FLAX SEED OR MAGNESIUM

*EAT GHEE, CLARIFIED BUTTER, IN ORDER TO REDUCE HARMFUL CHOLESTEROL AND INCREASE HELPFUL CHOLESTEROL, DECREASING HEART DISEASE RISK FACTORS!
